Github To Layoff 10% Of Global Workforce In Latest Tech Cuts

#artificialintelligence

Github has announced plans to cut its workforce by 10% and will go fully remote, closing all of its physical offices as their leaves expire. They announced a hiring freeze back in January, and this will continue as part of the cost cutting operations. As well as shutting down their physical operations and showing staff the door, they'll also be conducting efficiency-led changes throughout the business to bring costs down. If it seems like there are new layoffs announced every day, it's because there practically are. We've seen layoffs from all across the tech sector, including household names like Google, Meta and Microsoft.

Muslims should beware the next threat - the Artificial Intelligence revolution – 5Pillars

#artificialintelligence

Blogger Najm Al-Din warns Muslims about the dangers of the Artificial Intelligence revolution which risks making Muslims, like the rest of humanity, slaves to technology and algorithms. In the past month, I have noticed many social media posts about the remarkable accuracy and detail in which ChatGPT – a human-like AI chatbot – can help users with various tasks such as writing articles, drafting academic papers and answering pretty much any trivia question which comes to mind. But my sincere advice to all of us enamoured by this undoubtedly powerful language processing model is to stop feeding the algorithm. It's important that we interpret the evolution of AI in light of the World Economic Forum's "Great Reset" agenda, for which the Davos elites are eagerly preparing mankind. A clarion call of the WEF for some years, The Great Reset refers to the radical restructuring of the globe's social, economic and political systems, which is expected to usher in an era of equitable growth, prosperity and sustainability for the planet. The WEF's website outlines the ambitious initiative in the most sanguine fashion, promising a future where new patterns of consumption, overhauls to infrastructure and major transformations to existing geopolitical relations will upend the way humans live, work and trade.

Preparing the Global Workforce for AI Disruption

#artificialintelligence

Within the next decade, the world will see a major disruption of the workforce due to advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. According to a McKinsey Global Institute report, 375 million workers, or about 14 percent of the global workforce, may be required to shift occupations as digitization, automation, and AI technologies start to take over the workspace. In a separate 2018 report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), half of the global workforce is expected to be impacted one way or another by machine-learning technologies. AI technology will be at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and it will prove to be a far greater challenge than the ones that preceded it. If the world does not prepare, robots and technology could cause mass unemployment.

AI, automation, and the future of work: Ten things to solve for

#artificialintelligence

Beyond traditional industrial automation and advanced robots, new generations of more capable autonomous systems are appearing in environments ranging from autonomous vehicles on roads to automated check-outs in grocery stores. Much of this progress has been driven by improvements in systems and components, including mechanics, sensors and software. AI has made especially large strides in recent years, as machine-learning algorithms have become more sophisticated and made use of huge increases in computing power and of the exponential growth in data available to train them. Spectacular breakthroughs are making headlines, many involving beyond-human capabilities in computer vision, natural language processing, and complex games such as Go. These technologies are already generating value in various products and services, and companies across sectors use them in an array of processes to personalize product recommendations, find anomalies in production, identify fraudulent transactions, and more.

What The AI Jobs Of The Future Will Look Like

#artificialintelligence

Although the future is exciting, it's also unknown. Dell Technologies' Realizing 2030 report found that 85 percent of jobs that will exist in 2030 haven't yet been thought up. Despite fears around the unknown, research from McKinsey reports that, on the whole, job growth will outpace job loss. Researchers found that while 15 percent of the global workforce -- 400 million workers -- could be displaced by automation by 2030, this will be offset by the jobs gained. In the same period, labor demand is predicted to grow by up to 33 percent of the global workforce -- the equivalent of 890 million new jobs.
